Understanding Keyword Extensions for More Targeted Lead Generation

When you are targeting traffic you need to put yourself in the minds of people who are searching – lead generation is about knowing your audience/target market as much as anything.

Remember, everybody searches Google in different ways. Some people search by typing in brand or product names, others search by typing questions, whole sentences, or even by using local slang or jargon.

How you search will be different to most other people, so we need to consider these other variables when targeting keywords.

Also, consider people who make spelling mistakes when searching—many people do, and there are often consistent patterns with those mistakes e.g. independent vs. independant.

There are several ways we can extend and increase variables in our Keyword list:

  • An online Thesaurus
  • Keyword Content Tool Generator
  • Searching Google for suggestions

You can use this process any number of times to determine the best keywords for your site. Once you have discovered your specific master keywords then the fun starts with being creative around them and seeing what variations are worth considering. This should help move your B2B marketing into overdrive.
